Wildflowers & Bees:
You can help!!
We now know that adding colour from wildflowers into your garden or outdoor space has many benefits.
Globally we are told that bee numbers are in decline, and that this will in the end mean that food production etc will become an issue.
For many years now we (Grass Science Seeds) have helped farmers, landowners and gardeners to plant and cultivate wildflower areas, this has been very rewarding for them and could be for you.
A small window box (within an urban area) of the correct wildflowers will provide a great source of food for many bees throughout the season.
Having bees and other pollinators around will mean you have some stunning splashes of colour to look at, whilst at the same time doing your bit for your local ecology.
Our “Wildflowers & Bees” range has been carefully formulated to maximise ease of growing and colour impact, whilst feeding the butterflies and bees.
It is also well worth pointing out these projects big or small are great fun for all the family, over the years we have done work with many primary schools, building wild areas and teaching children about their Environment and what they can do to help.
Prepare the seedbed (soil) and plant the seeds, add water here and there and watch them grow, the can typically take around 5 to 8 weeks depending on location etc.
When planning these projects set some little targets for the kids, bee counts, colours, types. Get the children to learn as much as you can be taking photos and drawing what they see. The range of wildlife found is smashing, and the range of plant growth/colours matches the smashing wildlife.
Areas can be small pots, window boxes or large areas of gardens or fields, they all play a part in helping bees find food and surviving.
Lastly, remember to have fun and enjoy your project.
