The Technical Architecture of the Sward

Introduction
At Grass Science Seeds, our "Soil-to-Rumen" philosophy is built on the understanding that a successful winter starts in the spring. While we provide the elite genetics and agronomic expertise to grow high-quality forage, the technical nutritional strategy is delivered through our sister company, SC Nutrition (SCN). This unique partnership ensures that your farm isn't just growing grass, but producing high-value energy and protein that is precisely balanced for animal health and performance.
Independent Technical Nutrition via SC Nutrition
By working with SCN, we provide a truly independent nutritional service that puts the farmer first. Unlike traditional feed companies, SCN is not tied to a feed mill’s "least-cost" formulations. Instead, they design the technical architecture of your dairy, beef or sheep diets. This joined-up approach ensures that every hectare of your land and every mouthful of your ration is working toward your specific business objectives.

Precision Performance Monitoring
What is measured can be managed. Through the expert consultancy of SC Nutrition, we help you verify that your forage is delivering results. From metabolic blood profiling in partnership with Edinburgh University to intensive Transition Cow Management (TMS), the SCN team provides the data-driven "jigsaw pieces" needed to complete the picture of farm health. By monitoring the transition from soil to rumen, we ensure your business remains resilient and profitable.

OUR SERVICES
Advanced Diet & Complete Feed Formulation
This service provides bespoke rations for dairy, beef and sheep. Using on-farm forage and water analysis, SCN designs diets that maximise home-grown potential. This includes amino acid balancing for high-yielding herds and the formulation of bespoke nuts and blends that bypass the standard "mill-led" rations to prioritise farmer returns.
Farm Business Intelligence & Strategic Sourcing
Nutrition is a financial decision. Through SC Nutrition, we offer full-farm budgeting and financial forecasting. SCN tracks global raw material markets - including wheat, soya and currency fluctuations - to advise you on the optimum time to source feeds. This market intelligence, combined with Xero-integrated budgeting, allows you to understand your total cost of production in real-time.
On-Farm Verification & Transition Management
SCN provides the hands-on monitoring required for high-performance systems. This includes routine scoring for Rumen Fill, Mobility and Body Condition as well as the specialist "Maternity Wing" (TMS) protocol. By focusing on the critical period from dry to fresh-calved, SCN reduces metabolic failure and ensures your cows are ready to perform from day one of lactation.
